The Great Alberta Migration-2023

July 2022 to July 2023 proved to be the largest migration of people to Alberta ever. 184,000 people relocated to Alberta. Sixty percent of those new Albertans came from international immigration and the rest from other parts of the country. This number surpassed our last record in 2013 with 106,000 new Albertans. It is remarkable that we almost doubled our record. 1.

Alberta, the attractive alternative

The attractive home prices in Alberta are only one attraction to relocating to Alberta. Other reasons are connected to our economy which is influenced by fiscal conservatism, the lowest taxation in Canada and the amount of investment coming to the province. This means a robust job market. Alberta Migration is a boon to much needed workers that support our economy. Alberta also offers some of the most breathtaking natural scenery in the world, from the Boreal Forrest to Banff and the Rocky Mountains. Step out your door almost anywhere in Alberta to breathtaking vistas and opportunities for play.

Albertans are great at welcoming diversity. When running into people who have recently relocated to Alberta, the common theme that we hear is how welcomed people feel, how safe they feel and what a wonderful decision they have made in their relocation. Let’s keep that reputation going!

Meeting Growth Challenges

Now that we've been rediscovered, where do we put everyone? Housing is going to remain a challenge over the next couple of years. All levels of government programs from local zoning to home buyer incentives, as well as secular investment will be integral to sustain our growth and economic diversity. Alberta's health care system, already strained will have to see growth that matches our ever increasing population. Alberta is going to have to face adaptabillity issues and be very quick on our feet!
